Friendly Fridays

We are trialing a new playground system at Abacus on Fridays at the moment.
Instead of all of the K1’s using the playground together followed by the K2 children later we are now taking all of the Bilingual class children from K1 and K2 out together and then the English class K1 and K2 children out afterwards.
The purpose of this is to:

  • Offer more opportunities for K1 peer learning from older children
  • Allow K2 children an opportunity to develop their nurturing, social skills by working alongside younger children
  • Allow Bilingual class children to have more opportunities to communicate in Chinese on the playground
  • Allow children to develop new friendships across the yeargroups

The children in K2 have received support from teachers and discussed how to interact appropriately and be inclusive towards K1 children.
Here are some of the pictures from our first friendly Friday last week of K1 and K2 children working together.

K1 Exhibition and Picture Frames

The K1 Art Exhibition will take place next Friday 24th March. Parents will be invited in for a 1 hour session with their child to view their child’s artwork. More information will follow shortly.
In the meantime if you have any picture frames that you don’t need hanging around at home, please donate them to school as we would like some more frames for displaying children’s work in.

Speech and Language Therapy Sessions

We now have a new  speech and language therapist working at Abacus during the school day. If you have any concerns about your child’s language, the therapist is able to provide a comprehensive screening to determine whether you child needs ongoing therapy.
Our new therapist is also able to provide on site therapy sessions for any children who need ongoing speech and language therapy. If you are interested or would like more information please contact allison.banbury@abacus.esf.org.hk
