Although we are not governed by the statutory holidays for schools, we follow the ESF schools calendar. During every year we have 5 teacher’s training days built into the calendar. This is in addition to the contact days with children. These CPD days are added onto our calendar not removed from the contact days with children.
Abacus Calendar for 2019-2020 is available here.
Welcome Back everyone, we hope you had a restful and exciting Christmas holiday. The team at Abacus wishes you a Happy New Year.
We would like to welcome Danielle Evans back to Abacus after her maternity leave. It was sad to see Zena go at the end of term but we will probably be seeing Zena for some supply cover this term.
We would also like to welcome Neha Modi who has been appointed as our Senior administrator to work in the office with Frances. Neha will be receiving ESF training this week so please bear with us if things are a little slow in the office this week.
Congratulations also to Olivia Kane who is expecting a baby at Easter time. We will be arranging maternity cover for her nearer to the time and will keep you posted.
Chinese New Year Celebrations
We have changed the way we are running the Chinese New Year celebrations at Abacus this year. Instead of just doing a song or two at the end of the day, we are running the session as more of an open day for parents with a focus on Chinese New Year learning.
We will be inviting K1 parents into school for the session on Monday 20th January and K2 parents in on Wednesday 22nd January. We know some parents will be working and will not be able to attend. Please let your class teacher know if you cannot attend and they will arrange for your child to be accompanied by an adult. More details about this will follow shortly.
A reminder – our Gruffalo theatre trip is on Tuesday 21st January. The show is held at The HK Academy for Performing Arts in Wan Chai. Please make your own way there and meet teachers inside the foyer downstairs at 11.45. We will not be distributing tickets beforehand, so please ensure you are on time and line up in your classes next to your teacher to enter the theatre.
We also ask that you follow theatre staff’s instructions on where to sit in your class groups. This prevents odd spaces being left around the theatre and children being seated separately from their parents.
Please note that, there is no school on this day should you decide not to attend the show as all of our staff will be at the theatre.
