Although we are not governed by the statutory holidays for schools, we follow the ESF schools calendar. During every year we have 5 teacher training days built into the calendar. This is in addition to the contact days with children. These CPD days are added onto our calendar not removed from the contact days with children.

Please find the school calendar for Abacus Calendar for 2018-2019  here.

Welcome Back

We hope you all had a restful holiday and spent some time with your families during the break. We have had a few changes over the holidays at Abacus. The play house has been removed as it was rotten, we are in the process of ordering a more open ended and durable replacement in the mean time the space will be used for drama and singing activities.

New Staff

Suyi Chen left us to join Peak School as a Mandarin Teacher before the holidays, her replacement Irene Ma will join us from 12th February as our Mandarin assistant. Irene is a qualified teacher and we look forward to working with her.

Danielle Evans will leave us at Easter for maternity leave and we are pleased to say that Catalina Abel will replace her for the final term of this school year. Catalina is a qualified teacher who has worked for ESF for many years and has been an Abacus parent and supply teacher during the past few years. We will ensure that Catalina and Danielle have time for a handover before Danielle leaves so the transition is smooth for children.

Clay

As part of the K1 ARTS unit we will be teaching the children skills for working with clay. Please see this article outlining the benefits of working with clay.

After School

We have noticed an increasing number of families remaining at school on the playground and front garden after school. We have also seen children being brought onto school premises during the holidays by helpers. Please make sure that you leave school promptly after a school session and that children do not enter the school when it is closed. Unfortunately, our insurance doesn’t cover us for after school and holidays unless we purchase extra cover by the hour. Thank-you for your co-operation.
